66music plays real recorded instruments. Some of those recordings were made by other people and shared under licences that let us use them. This page says who, and how.
Drums — MuldjordKit
The drum kit you hear in 66 Fills is MuldjordKit: the original kit is by Lars Muldjord, it was sampled by the DrumGizmo project, and the release we actually use was adapted and published by the FreePats project. All three are named because the licence asks for everyone designated to receive attribution, not just the first name in the chain.

The samples have been modified. They were trimmed, given a short fade-out, and re-encoded as MP3 so that they load quickly in a browser. No notes were changed and nothing was transposed, but the player does nudge each strike by a few cents so repeated hits do not sound machine-gunned. The files are not the originals, and the licence requires us to say so.

Piano — VSCO-2 Community Edition
The upright piano in 66 Tickles is from VSCO-2 Community Edition, sampled by Simon Dalzell of Ivy Audio for Versilian Studios. Released under a CC0 public-domain dedication, which asks for nothing. Credited anyway.
Guitar tone — FreePats
The guitar sound on the chord and scale pages (as distinct from the 264 recorded licks) is the FreePats FSBS Electric Guitar bank, clean and distorted. CC0, so no credit is required. Here it is anyway.
Bass — Karoryfer
The bass in 66 Grooves uses chromatically sampled recordings released under a CC0 (public domain) dedication, which asks for nothing. Credited here anyway, because somebody recorded them.
Everything else
- The 264 guitar licks are our own recordings, made for the original 66 Licks product.
- The exercisesfor piano, bass and drums are generated by the app's own theory engine — written as scale degrees rather than recorded, which is why they are correct in all twelve keys. The sounds those exercises are played with are the sampled instruments credited above.
- The synth voices are built in the browser with Web Audio. Nobody recorded those.
If we have got a credit wrong
Tell us and we will fix it the same day. Attribution is the whole price of these licences, and it is a price worth paying properly.
